"This job is not about me. It is about we. Four years ago, I hung a flag in my Senate office with large letters "We the People" - it reminds me everyday to keep you in my heart and in my decisions. I am grateful for your ideas and time, so we can work together for the good of Minnesota.
"We just finished the toughest Minnesota legislative session since the Great Depression, yet I am pleased that positive progress has been made on many issues. Speaking honestly about the budget, there is still a lot of work ahead to continue stabilizing the state from a rocky global economy.
"People tell me they are frustrated with political bickering. I agree! As a lifelong Democrat married to a Republican for 30 years, I know firsthand the importance of listening to different opinions. Politics is like a marriage - neither "party" gets their way 100% of the time. Because of my reputation as a respectful leader, I am very proud to represent you as the one Democrat chosen to share the ony bipartisan senate desk with a Republican.
